Americas Cup
AMERICA BEATS THE ENGLISH FLEET
On 22.8.1851, the yacht America outsailed the whole British fleet in a race around the Isle of Wight. The nearest British yacht to her, Aurora, finished 8 minutes after the America. The 100 Guinea Cup she won was renamed in her honour "The America Cup".
COLUMBIA & SHAMROCK II
Lipton's second attempt to lift 'the Auld Mug'. Shamrock II fared a little better than her predecessor but was defeated by
the superior Columbia.
RANGER & ENDEAVOUR II BEFORE THE WIND
Tommy Sopwiths Endeavour II was superior to his first boat but could not match the technological quantum leap of Rangers design.
RELIANCE AT SANDY HOOKD
Herreshoff designed Reliance was the largest cutter rigged yacht in history at 196ft to the truck. She is shown near the Sandy Hook Light Vessel.
SHAMROCK III & RELIANCE
In 1903 Shamrock III was to be Sir Thomas Lipton's 3rd challenge for the Cup in 5 years. She was an unworthy antagonist for Reliance, the defender, which was the most impressive of all yachts ever to sail in the America's Cup Races.
YANKEE, ENDEAVOUR & ATLANTIC
Gerard Lambert arrived in England in summer of 1935 in Atlantic. Yankee his crack racing yacht took on the British fleet and came in second after Endeavour in a superb summer of racing.
